GroomPod 463 transcript

Susy Hello, groomers. You found the groom pod. Welcome to our virtual salon. My name is Suzy and I'm your host. I'm a mobile groomer from Seattle, Washington, and anybody who knows me will tell you I love to talk, especially about my job. And one of my favorite people to talk to is my friend and mentor and the co-star of the show, the curator of ingredients, Miss Barbara Berg.

Bbird Hey, Suzy. Uh, happy day after Halloween, boy. So glad to put that one behind me. It's fall now, for sure.

Susy Hey, did you have any trick or treaters?

Bbird No.

Susy Oh, darn.

Bbird No. Well, you know, it's there's not kids in this apartment complex hardly at all. So, you know, I didn't I didn't expect it because I asked Jody. He's lived in this apartment complex for twenty years now. You'll never have any. So anyway, it. But I'm just enjoying the fullness of it all, you know? And and there's leaves that blow into the house and maple leaves stain and I it's really cool. It's fun. I'm having a good life here in Greenville.

Susy At is so awesome. Yeah, actually, the week after Halloween is my favorite because everyone knows I love candy and everyone gives me their leftover candy. So I have a pile that you cannot see of candy over sitting on my desk there, and more to come. It lasts about a week, week and a half as people unload their candy on me. It's really I love it. And then I save it and I hoard it like a little squirrel hiding my nuts. And I just piece it out a couple pieces at a time every night, and it lasts me for a really long time. I love Halloween. Welcome to the groom. Pod. Recorded on November second, twenty twenty five, in Snohomish, Washington and Greenville, South Carolina. This week we're going to talk about the groomer, the Groomer November twenty twenty five issue and what we liked about it. And then we're going to have a little discussion about results, rinse and what's new this week, which is a rant for me. Not all that common is brought to you by groomer software. If you haven't found groomer, you're missing out. Groomer is an all in one software solution for your grooming business, whether you are a solo mobile groomer or manage several shops, groomer has everything you need twenty four hour online booking and forms routing, credit card processing, reminders, Google Calendar and QuickBooks integration. I would look like if I had an upper lip and the best customer service anywhere, shop, mobile or house call groomer has you covered and they're giving us a free month. Just enter Groom Pod twenty two in the coupon code. Okay, hold on to your seat, Barbara, because I am annoyed, but I can't really be annoyed. It's a double edged sword. One of our listeners requested or had a question about results. Rinse. And I was very certain that we have talked about results rinse many times, maybe not as the main focus, but at least throughout the podcast, year after year, we mention results, rinse, we talk about it, but it's not very searchable unless we do it as its own topic. So today we're going to do it as its own topic. But that's not what really pissed me off. Made me angry. My mother hated that term. That's not what really made me angry. What made me angry is Google has changed the way they search for things. The whole algorithm with AI involved searches for stuff in an entirely different manner, which I thought was really nifty and neat and helpful until I tried to search for a topic on the groom pod, and we didn't even come up on the first two pages. So there's four hundred and sixty three episodes on the groom pod out there. Actually, there's four hundred and sixty two that now no longer are searchable on Google. And I got puzzled. Yeah. Why can't I find this episode of the Groom pod? Why isn't the groom pod? It's always been. If I search the groom pod space results, rinse. Then all of the episodes where we mentioned it in the title would pop up or acidifier or anything, but we weren't even on the first page at all. First time ever.

Bbird Well, that's fucked up.

Susy And so I started to think about why is this happening? And then I went, I'm going to go ask AI and find out why AI is not finding the groom pod. I asked it in the most detailed way. I said, we've had four hundred and sixty episodes, eleven years of podcasting, and I've always been able to find the things that are listed in my title. And it's true, when I make a title, I make it short because the people who are listening to our podcast are professional groomers looking for specific things, and I wanted it to be easy to search. Well, AI tells me that I need to post the transcript of the show so AI can find it and mine out the information from our actual Conversation and search that way. Well I'm not. I can't do that for four hundred and sixty one episodes. It told me not to. It said, you just got to let that go. It's not even worth trying to retitle and repost the transcripts for every single podcast. So the best that I can offer you guys who listen to the show and want to look something up is private. Message me and I will pull out my hard drive that has every episode on and is completely searchable through the titles, like I've titled them for the last eleven years so we could find stuff that was in there. That's what you need to do. So if you can't find it, if it doesn't pop up for you on your search, either message me and I'll find which episode we did the discussion on and I'll send it to you. I'll send you a link. In the meantime, I always edit off of a transcript, but it's a bad transcript. It is not exact, not in any way, shape or form, especially with shampoo ingredients or the groom. Pod comes out grumpy or something really odd like that. So. But AI tells me that doesn't matter, as long as you've got the basic context of what you're talking about, and it's posted under your blog that's connected to your podcast, then we can do it. So I don't want all of those blog posts of the transcripts to necessarily show up in the index on the podcast. So then that became all complicated, and I had to tear into the stupid website again, which is not my forte. So that you can find the articles that are in the blog that Barbara has written, because I don't really put content on the blog. That's kind of Barbara's thing. I'm not the writer she is, but now I'm going to litter the blog post with full transcripts, pages and pages and pages long. Yeah, I know, but they won't be. They won't be on the regular list. I figured out how to just make the index the actual blog posts, but then Google will still find the episode title, the number, locate the information that we talked about, and then be able to search it. So I know it's frustrating. It's more frustrating for me, but it's frustrating when we have eleven years of content out and now it becomes almost completely unsearchable. That's frustrating. And Google's like, you didn't do anything wrong. This is just the way it works now. Okay, well, thanks for that. Yeah, so that's my rant. Yeah, that sucked up a lot of my week. Was messing with trying to figure out like collateral damage. Yes.

Bbird They upgraded it something or other. And the collateral. You can't search our files.

Susy The nuts and bolts of it is now after I edit the podcast and save it to my hard drive or to my little side drive, I then have to open a different program and transcribe it, which takes another hour so that it's at least legible and readable. Because Adobe Podcast translates much better than the podcast editing software, which is much more detailed and much more in depth. Adobe Podcast gets it better. So long story short, if you want to read the transcript, it is up under the blog posts. But if you need to find something that you know we've talked about, please message me. I will keep an eye on those and I will find it for you. Alas, progress.

Bbird Pain in the butt.

Susy Well, imagine my surprise when I go do a simple search and I put in the title something that I know we talked about two weeks ago and nothing pops up, nothing with the podcast. And I put the Groom Pod podcast. I mean, I started really detailing my search words and it still wasn't coming up, and it's because I don't put long descriptions. So now after I. This is so complicated. After I do the transcript, I now have to copy and paste that to AI and say, right. The Facebook post, right the description for the podcast so that it comes out searchable. So now they're very long winded. I apologize for everyone who's just looking for the Funky Poodle review. You're gonna have to really search for it. Uh.

Bbird Speaking of Funky Poodle review, did you contact, uh, Christopher and tell him what episodes we had up?

Susy Absolutely. Well, we also had a question about the Penelo comb brush and how to use it. And actually, the person Lacey Bessinger wanted a video of us using the Penelo comb Maya trailer. Yeah, Barbara's not grooming in my trailer. Walls are are peeling and it just looks horrible on video and I can't figure it out. I suppose I could have AI adjust it and take out my horrible trailer. I'll consider doing that. But that Penelope comb brush thing I don't even know what to call it. Is that the most amazing tool that nobody knows about this?

Bbird Call it a hybrid brush.

Susy Okay, yeah, it's a plastic, but it's really nice, smooth, gentle plastic. And it comes in a gazillion colors.

Bbird It's kind of like silicone type coating.

Susy Yes. And it is great for picking away at tangles. I use it almost all the time. When I'm shedding a double coated dog while I'm drying. I use it just gently to encourage the hair out and it's fantastic at that. It's so gentle it doesn't break hair. What would be the tines? The tines of the comb are actually canicular. They're cone shaped, so they very gently split apart stuff much better than just a little fork tine kind of a thing. So what is your favorite way to use it?

Bbird Well, I use it brushing out and while I'm drying, but I've also got the mainly long hair detangler that I love for detangling. That's just a little bit more effective for me for undoing tangled hair. And I would do a video, except that both of my dogs are so grooming adverse that you would just see me be hurting them. I bathed little day before yesterday and I used the funky poodle. So she's got the skin condition is still kind of going. I had covered the the wounds or the the part where the scaly, scabby stuff with the. Cream stuff and which is good, with one exception. It's a thick cream. And it doesn't just go through the hair to the scabs, it forms a creamy coating over, you know, like, I can't quite get down to the skin with it. Um, and then it dries like that. And so I bathed her and I looked underneath some of the scab. It looks like. So healing has occurred, although it the areas are not Totally when they're totally healed. The scabs are sort of shed.

Susy Right?

Bbird And then you can tell because it's in the the scabs are in the hair rather than attached to the skin. So I just kind of lightly combed. She had some matting in the, um, like, around her wrist, and I wanted so much to just brush it out, but she just walked out and I thought, this is not a moment to press for grooming results and add that extended stress to her, because stress is one of the things that stimulates the autoimmune response to get the skin problem. I just said, you know what? I shouldn't push her. I shouldn't put her in a vice grip and comb her out. So I'm probably going to have to shave her legs down, like, right about Christmas time.

Speaker 4 Whoa whoa whoa.

Susy That's not what we like to hear.

Bbird So we'll see. But I would be happy to demonstrate the use of the panella.

Susy What I want to say about the Pinello combination hybrid brush thing is that my favorite part about it is it comes in a gazillion colors, and I think that's pretty cool, especially if you buy it at the website. That's p e n e l l pinello. It's got doubles and doubles of letters in there. We have talked about it numerous times through the years. So what I'm going to do for you is I'm going to go in and pull out my hard drive and locate some of those, and I will link them to your post. Lacey, and we'll get you some more information about how it works. We won't have a video for a while. Maybe Barbara can get a video later. Maybe I can figure out how to use AI to block out the back of my trailer. Something like that. We'll get a video up, but you should be able to kind of get a handle on it from the previous episodes that we've done. So how about if we take a break and then we move on to our discussion about November twenty twenty five issue of Groomer to Groomer magazine. Let me tell you about best shots. Newest addition to the Ultramax Pro line, Ultramax Hair Hold is a flexible hairspray that can be layered on for a stronger hold. Ultramax Hair Hold spray is great, but my favorite new product is called the Max and I won't groom without it. It's a fragrance free ultra concentrate conditioner and detangler. It reduces drying time and handles undercoat and tangles like magic. Just a few drops in the final, rinse or spray it on and dry it in. Bbird So I just want to add a little bit about October. We have missed it. But October is the cat grooming edition our issue. And it's got a lot of interesting articles in it. And I highly recommend it. If you're grooming cats, read the issue. Get into the community of cat groomers. We need to expand the base so that it's just like not just one faction kind of leading the way. But I want to hear from all kinds of cat groomers that I was disappointed in one article that I thought I was going to love, and it was an article about working with the customer, the cat owner, and I thought it would be grooming with the owner assisting, and it didn't even mention that it was just on what the owner can do at home, which is really good. Like acclimate the cat to getting in and out of the carrier with treats. And so they just don't think, um, it's a trip to the vet or the groomer when the when the carrier comes out.

Susy Yes.

Bbird Put the care, bring the carrier out and put goodies in it. You know, stuff like that is a good idea. But I groomed cats for about fifteen years, and I even called or created a method that worked for me, which was to always have one of the cats trusted humans, uh, stay with the cat while I groomed it. And they could also help hold the cat if a couple of more hands were necessary and I. Oh, I had some really good relationships. Good client relationships. My clients just loved that I did that, and they were so happy to be able to stay that they would take coaching and instructions on their role. And so they were easy to control at the tables, to act in a way that was helpful to the process. And I think it's a an option. It doesn't have to be like at the vet's, where you take the animal away from the owner and go do the things and then bring it back. I it's harder to do with dog training because dogs react differently to having In two leaders. But cats, um, cats gained some reassurance from their owner's presence that reduces the amount of stress and reduces the amount of acting out because mom or dad are there and they can really help. So it's I was disappointed that the cat issue didn't take that possibility up, but that's all.

Susy I fully agree with that. I think that owners are a great asset to you in working with the animals that are on your table, even the dogs, but in a very different way, but especially the cats. And as a mobile groomer, where I'm already parked in front of their house, I will often just pick up my stuff and go into the house. So the cat is even more comfortable with the owner helping there in their own environment. They're not out in the in the trailer. Although sometimes I will admit that being in a unique environment that they're not used to distracts them enough so that it's helpful, but you can also bring the people out to the trailer. I do that quite a bit and have them help me with their cats.

Bbird Have you ever groomed a cat on an ironing board?

Susy Oh yes, and kitchen tables and kitchen counters. And bathroom counters. Yeah.

Bbird And the washing machine? Yep. I like the ironing board because it was narrow. And so there wasn't a lot of squirmy room.

Susy Yes.

Bbird And the padding was good. So it was comfortable for them, and they were less likely to take a leap off of the ironing board. I liked ironing board, cat grooming. So, uh, so they're, you know, like those some of those old methods, uh, have something to offer?

Susy Absolutely. I totally agree about having the owners. The owners are one of your best assets, and there is an article in this month's issue about the owners as well. I was interested in reading it. Apparently I didn't write it down here because it wasn't one of the ones that really caught my attention, but they were talking about teaching the owners to brush the dogs.

Bbird Oh, that's oh yeah, I remember that article.

Susy Yeah, it's called Pet Owners and Underutilized Resource for Reducing Your Workload by Kathy Hosler. And when I saw it, I thought exactly what you were talking about. I thought it was about getting the owner involved in the grooming process, but it actually was about getting them to brush at home, which you and I both know is a double edged sword for me. I would prefer to get a haircut that is workable for the owner than to have them brush and damage the hair, or teach the animal bad habits when they're brushing. Like I had a client pass away and the dog has gone to the daughter in law and son, and they're not used to having a dog that needs haircuts and things like that. They're used to big dogs that have smooth coats. So I said, oh yeah, it takes two of us to hold him down and get him in the bath. And I'm thinking, oh, no, don't do that. Don't do that. He doesn't need that. You just need to have a suction cup. Spray, spray, spray. Don't hold the dog down and force him to go in the bath. I'll never be able to do my job. So that's why. I mean, it's a double edged sword to have them helping at home. I like when you can trust someone well enough to take your instruction, to use the tools you say and to do the brushing, but for me, I say concentrate on ears and tail and I will do the rest. But if I've got a difficult dog, especially for nails and it's small, I will absolutely have the owner hold the dog when I do the nail trim. So that's what I thought it was going to be more like, but instead it was more about brushing at home. So what's your feelings about having the owners brush at home?

Bbird I have mixed feelings about that because they often don't know how to do it right. And they don't. They. They brush over the top of the coat, sometimes with a rough slicker, which, you know, I have issues about. But I did used to actually sell tools of which I could approve their use, like the Patello.

Susy Yes.

Bbird You know, I sold a bunch of those because those hybrid brushes are easy for owners to use.

Susy And very coat code friendly.

Bbird It's hard to get them to use a grooming spray. So if there's any kind of coat, I really want them to mist lightly while they groom so that there's a little bit of elasticity to the coat there, and less likelihood of coat breakage.

Susy Cathy mentioned the selling things part so that she did. She she mentioned if you do any retail, have the stuff.

Bbird You know, I know a lot of people are not going to appreciate this statement, but science says that brushing is a lot more damaging to hair than is combing, and especially using something with a wider toothed comb is can be a good in between. Grooming In tools, then brushing a lot, especially dry coat, and maybe really chewing up the the cuticle of the hair and, you know, causing surface damage to the coat. That then makes for more matting and tangling and disruption. So I almost with some dogs, I would rather they not be done in between. Let's just.

Susy Get a better haircut.

Bbird Get a better haircut, or let me do it.

Susy I'm a big proponent of saying, I don't want you to have to work in between grooms. That's crazy talk. Let me make up the haircut so that you don't have to do anything but keep those ears and tails untangled. And people are very appreciative of that because they think they should be doing some work.

Bbird You're so practical. I like the fluffy, the fluffy flowing coat. So then I'm trying to teach them how to maintain, like a drop coat or be shown coat. And um, it's fun. I've had lessons, and one of the things I've done is have people bring me their tools from home and then I'll say, don't ever use this. This goes in the trash. No, don't use this except in a dire emergency or this is good. Let's look at how we would use it and give them a sixty second lesson in. Come out and teach them how to start from the bottom and work their way up. And just like principles of brushing. And there again a handout.

Susy Yes.

Bbird If they want to keep a coat on their dog that's going to require in between grooming. Is it It's good to have a handout on how to best do that.

Susy And as we suggested last week, use AI to help you create that handout. And it'll be really neat and pop and exciting and have graphics in it and all that stuff. Yeah. So the my worst backfire with having the owner help is my English cream retriever, i.e. Golden Retriever. We all know that as my light colored golden retriever that's owned by the lady who's probably seventy eight years old, and she has gotten probably it's probably a rake of some kind, but it cuts the hair. And so the dog looks like a lab instead of like a golden retriever. And she just has ruined the coat. And long ago I told her, you don't have to brush. It's okay. There's no tangles in your dog. And she just wants that. Every bit of shedding hair out of that dog, and instead she's just cutting the hair off at the ends. And it looks Odd, but I. You know what? It's her dog. I let her do what she wants to do.

Bbird Your dog. Right?

Susy Yep. I'm just here to facilitate the best care of your dog as I possibly can. But if you really feel like you need to do this, have at it. And I won't say anything except for to, you know, a couple thousand people on the podcast. But. So here's a funny story I digress. Uh, taking a tangent here, the guy who was doing the German Shepherd rescues and ended up with all the dogs there at his house for a while. They listened to the podcast because he's my DJ friend. Oh, they heard me talk about their puppies. They were so excited. So that's fun. That was fun. So you and I both, I think, well, me for sure thought that the absolutely hands down best article in this groomer to groomer was the theory behind the fluff Asian fusion designed by Dylan Gonzalez. He writes it well, you can tell he's writing it from his own person, like his own opinion. But it was so well organized and it had so much information. It really helped me understand Asian fusion better. And that's what your articles are supposed to do. And in fact, this one did that in a really solid way.

Bbird Yeah, I think it helped you understand styling.

Susy Yes.

Bbird Better. Um, even breed profile styles better because it kind of broke it down. I thought that was an excellent article. I recognized my own evolution within that article because I didn't have a breakthrough moment, but I gradually leaned towards wanting to get out of. I mean, I groomed breed profile, marketed myself as breed profile groomer for years and I was so proud of it and of course got certified and all of that, and then got less excited about doing pre profiles and wanted to make docs just look cute. And that's where Asian fusion came in and showed me some options. And I gradually changed my whole perspective of grooming more towards what Dylan is talking about in his article. Even though I didn't have the training in it, I just evolved to understanding balance and that kind of stuff. I thought that was really good. I'm really I'm really glad to see groomer to groomer doing almost every issue, something related to other Body work. Saving your body exercises. And this particular article by Christie Anthony was real good, because it was all exercises you could do at a grooming table.

Susy I loved those graphics. I thought that was really fun.

Bbird And speaking of graphics, the the pictures of the winners of the All American. Oh man, they finally gave that photography the place it deserves. Nice large pictures of the winners. Beautiful photography. They made sure that the people were ready to have the picture taken. The dogs were stacked that, you know, it. It just, uh, really did us proud and gave the grooming competition. The coverage it deserves with better photography and larger, a larger amount of space in the in the magazine. Actually.

Susy I loved looking at all the winners and comparing the beginning winners from the advance winners and seeing oh so interesting to me.

Bbird Entry level people. They're so good. They're so good. They're they're entering we way upward. It's amazing.

Susy It is. Say when I was looking through that which did I did spend quite a bit of time examining those pictures because they're really great. I saw two entry categories that I did not know what were or I didn't know they had them, or I don't know what they do. Right. One of them is Compassionate Groomer. That's me. I want to be in that. I'm the. I know I don't make it a secret, but I am the most competitive human being ever put on this earth. I am so competitive. I'm competitive with myself. I'm competitive with other things that I'm my poor husband has to deal with it all the time because I'm competitive with him. And I don't mean to be. It's just it's just who I am. What's a compassionate groomer? What does that entail? How do you compete that way?

Bbird I think I know it's not a class in and of itself. It's an award that happens within the Rescue rodeo competition. So there's a winner for grooming technique, and there's a winner of Most Compassionate, because that person might not have the finished result that the winner of the styling itself. It's a very important award.

Susy I love it, I was so excited because it's my thing.

Bbird Been around for a couple of years now. It's sort of like People's Choice Award, by the way. What did you think of The People's Choice? Didn't you love that?

Susy I loved it so much.

Bbird See? Now there you go. I'm just tired of these busy, busy, busy, busy, busy designs where everybody has to chip in as much design work as they can. I love this concept, this ghostly appearance. This was creative.

Susy Day of the dead. So neat.

Bbird It wasn't a poodle.

Susy Right? It was one of those hairless breeds. It was a hairless breed.

Bbird Dolce Vito or something?

Susy Thank you. I can't say it. So I wasn't even going to try.

Bbird I just spit it out and.

Susy Yeah, very cool. Really striking. Uh, cover picture. Absolutely. Okay. The other one, that, of course, caught my attention because I'm competitive. Clipper challenge. What is the Clipper challenge? Does it mean no scissoring at all? Because I could do that.

Bbird I think they're allowed, you know, like ten or twenty minutes.

Susy Okay.

Bbird But it's mostly done by, um, with clippers and snap on combs.

Susy Yeah, I could do that.

Bbird Yeah, I could do that too. My third pick article was, uh, Jennifer Bishop Jenkins on the flippy dryer thing. Yes. And I knew exactly what she was talking about, because that's one of my pet peeves, too, is groomers that just whipped the nozzle back and forth in the hair. Oftentimes the cone nozzle.

Susy Yeah.

Bbird I had a groomer that worked for me for a short period of time. She would take the high velocity dryer up at its max, use a cone dryer, whip it into a long coat and make mats, and then just rip them out with a comb. Oh, it was so vicious. It was so violent. It was so hurtful. And then she asked me, how come the dogs behave so much better for you? I said, well, because I'm not hurting them. And I hated that. And even my best buddy and mentee, Dave, he would move that dryer around and he thought he got more moisture out of the coat. Maybe for the first part of it, but not necessarily through to the dryer, and it makes more noise. It sprays coat where you don't want it to spray, like on the opposite leg, like on another part of the dog.

Susy It's a pet peeve for me because of behavior. Dogs. So many behavior. Dogs have sensitive bodies. They've got definite issues with the noise. It's more noisy. It's uncomfortable for them. It's not predictable for them.

Bbird It's not predictable. And Yvonne used to to laugh. She used to make this joke while she was trying, like, come on now. It's just there. I've seen you driving with your dad with your head out the window and, well, of course, because there it's all blowing in one direction and the dog can move his head and control what's happening. And when you just are, like, attacking the dog every which way with the dryer. Now, sometimes when you want to get the very last little dry to the skin, you can move the dryer back and forth. Back and forth by itself is not a bad thing. It's back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and back and forth.

Susy It's the speed at which you do it. If you can move back and forth a little bit slower without a nozzle on, and take the cuff of the dryer down to the skin, you're going to have a more effective job of drying the hair down there. If you hold the cuff right against the skin and the dog is not disturbed by it, any deflected air is going to be louder. But you can use the doggie headphones or the happy hoodies when your dog is not liking the dryer or in my opinion, really anything you're doing. Do it differently. Make a change. Try to make it so that you can find a happy spot for the dog.

Bbird And know when your dog is not liking what you're doing. Because even stoic dogs will give you the side eye or something. You know, like.

Susy I did my welder's cattle dogs yesterday. He's got two cattle dogs, a red and a and a blue. And then he has the cutest corgi puppy in the entire world. She's just freaking adorable. And so I was over there, and the Corgi and the red heeler are constantly in the trailer, jumping in and out, checking out what I'm doing. The blue colored heeler, stoic just won't even pretends I'm not even there. Just stands like a statue. I cannot get her to like me no matter what I try. She just tolerates the grooming. And then the minute she's done, she's out of there. She doesn't even look back at me. The other two dogs love me. If that wasn't the case, if the other two dogs didn't love the whole process. I would think I was a bad groomer, but in reality Nova is not angry at my grooming. I'm not her person, so she just doesn't want to interact with me, that's all. It's just who she is. It's a catalog. It's a healer.

Bbird Dogs are individuals, just like people. Not every person is going to love you. Even though I'm so lovable.

Susy So what is this thing you talk about? Not everyone loving you. How could that possibly be right?

Bbird I know, but it's true. You know, like some dogs just don't. Maybe it's how you smell. You don't even know if it's how you smell, right? It could be your voice. I sometimes do different voice things because I know that a lot of dogs respond to a little voice. It's just cute like that, you know? It's a beating and it's okay to do.

Susy Some, like the FM radio voice, the smooth as silk FM radio voice.

Bbird Yeah, this is XM am.

Susy Smooth jazz.

Bbird After midnight. Yes. Yeah.

Susy So the other article I liked that I wanted to mention was Daryl Connors article, because I am the queen of maintenance and she talks about maintaining your dryers. And I love the way she had a little quiz and she had like three or four options of what you would do if your dryer turned off and didn't come back on. What are the things you would do? And I loved her approach. It was whimsical, it was informative, and I can never scream enough about people maintaining their equipment. Please people, maintain your equipment. Do the maintenance. It'll save you thousands of dollars in the long run. All right. I think that wraps up our groomer to groomer. Let's move on to results. Rinse. But first we're going to take a quick break. So we got a person asking about results trends, and this is how I discovered that our episodes were now pretty much unsearchable on Google. It's because I couldn't find the results episode, so I'm going to link the results if I can find one that we talked exclusively about it, but I figured we'd talk about it again. So in case you don't know, Barbara was instrumental in developing results for show season. So tell us a little bit about how that all happened.

Bbird Well, how it happened was that I was using some products by all systems, number one. And one of their products was this product with a really long name. And it was what was the really long name? Susie.

Susy I don't know because I don't use their stuff.

Bbird All systems. Number one, there was Kothari Texturizer something, something something something. Right. It did a lot, a number of things. I used it and it was good on elderly dogs and good for, like, coat funk from elderly dogs. And I liked that. It really brightened up their skin. And I liked it a lot. And I used it here and there. And then I got the big idea of what it was lacking was some silicone. And so I took one of my it was probably either Chris Christensen or the stuff and added it to the All systems number one product. And I got this great results. And then it retexturize the coat. It left it springy and sizable. It didn't make the coat. The curly coats fall and drape. It just left it all springy and easy to scissor and it cleared up the skin. It helped reduce odor and it aided comb out because I added that dimethicone to it and I was having a Conversation with Sandy and Joe Seasons, and I mentioned to her that I was doing that and she said, well, let's make a product. Send me all the information about your proportions and stuff. And so I did that and she took it to her formulator. And the next thing we knew we had results risk which is an acidifier with detangling ability. That's what I wanted an Acidifier with detangling ability. And it's a option to use after the shampoo when you don't want to have over conditioning. And it's also it's good when you have over conditioned a coat and it's gotten kind of like stringy Instead of flowing like, let's talk about a drop coat getting kind of maybe too oily and maybe too greasy and maybe just, like, not the same fluff that you used to have. You want to bring back the fluff. Or maybe you have a coat like a Bedlington Terrier coat, which you need a little bit of something in there, but you definitely don't want to soften that coat because it won't be miserable, and you want to not have every scissor mark show the results is good for that, and it's good on Bicones, and it brings the part of the dog's coat to a lower level. It lowers the pH. And so this is controversy.

Susy It does a little odor control sometimes, too, I've noticed.

Bbird Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.

Susy It's very helpful for that.

Bbird Being acidic as it is, it doesn't kill bacteria, but it pretty much starves them.

Susy It makes it an unfriendly environment. Yes.

Bbird It does a lot of what? Adding white vinegar after the bath would do without it being that, you know, and with some conditioning effect and some moisture protection effect from the dimethicone coats, the hair shaft makes the hair separate easily and protects it from damage from grooming and heat damage. And so it has all of that. Plus it makes a nice springy, crisp coat.

Susy And never adds any weight.

Bbird It's weightless. It's not a conditioner if your coat needs conditioning That's not where you want to go. It's for a healthy coat that doesn't really need conditioning every single time. Or you use the conditioner, uh, in the shampoo.

Susy Like a two in one.

Bbird This is a clarifying treatment. If you if you just have styling product build up and show dogs or dogs that at home are getting a lot of spray put on them or something. It's good for if there's smoke odor on the animal, it really gets that out of it. It just has a a number of uses.

Susy Let's talk about how we actually put the product into use. So for you and I we have a recirculating bathing system. And it is just gold in the recirculating bathing system. You run it through as an after the bath, rinse through the system, and then you need to rinse it off after you do that because it is pretty acidic, right? Am I right there?

Bbird Right, right.

Susy So we know what kind of dogs we would use it on. We know how to use it in a recirculator what if you're not using a recirculator?

Bbird You spray it on.

Susy Okay, spray it on, rinse it off.

Bbird You can spray it on and rinse it off, or you can spray it on lightly and leave it on if you spray it on or. Well, here's another thing that I recently discovered. It does it by itself. Speed up drying. Sniff has their own acidifier that they market as a speed dryer product.

Susy Like a drying aid.

Bbird And a great expense. Uh.

Susy Well, there is that.

Bbird They're making a good profit. Really tasty product. They make money on that. But I found it very interesting. Oh, they're using the acidifier as mainly a drying aid if you don't have a recirculating bathing system. I think the best way is to dilute it in a pitcher and pour it through the coat, then follow it with a quick rinse. You don't have to worry about rinse and rinse and rinse. Just a quick rinse because if you leave some in the coat, it's not going to break the coat. If you use it all the time and never condition the dog, you might dry out the coat. Just saying.

Susy Okay, good. Perfect. And then, like I said, I will try to dig up something where we've talked about Acidifiers before and post that in the Facebook group.

Bbird One more thing to use the Acidifier. Use the results to lock in color. Oh, if you're doing coloring, um, because it's going to close that cuticle really tight. So it's going to help keep the color from bleaching out or.

Susy It'll give it some staying power.

Bbird Yeah. So that's another thing.

Susy Okay.

Bbird Color stay. Yeah. So there's just a lot of uses for results. And I'm really glad that I kind of turned it over to Sandy and let her rip.

Susy And of course, the magic bullet is results. Rinse with some best shot the max in it as a final rinse. That is the cat's pajamas. I love it so much, and I do use that as a mobile groomer to do a little light conditioning on dogs that I've used a two in one on, or dogs that really don't need a lot of conditioning anyway. And it's an extra step. It's a little bit more water, but it's well worth it because it dries faster, it smells better, and it's just a good solid product. So I did want to review that today and maybe next week we had a request for quicker slicker, since quicker slicker now has their ingredients up on the. I know Barbara just rolled her eyes that all you can see is the white part of her eyes, because her eyes disappeared into the back of her head, but it was a request. Barbara, we are for the people here. We need to do it.

Bbird That means I need to buy some.

Susy No it doesn't. It just means you need to look at the ingredients. Just give us a bird's eye view. You know how it works. It works fine. It's fine. And it smells delightful. So just take a look at what's in there and see if there's anything nifty or new or, you know, that kind of a thing we might do that next week. We might not. It'll depend on if I can get Barbara's eyes to come back out of the back of her head.

Bbird So the other thing that we've talked about that we might do soon is we might talk about some human products that we're using ourselves.

Susy Yes.

Bbird And, uh, what we like about them.

Susy That'll be fun.

Bbird That's just one of these days when we don't have any topics, we're going to do that. We're going to talk about our own shampoos for our own hair.

Susy And it sounds good.

Bbird I'll tell you all about how I make my eighty five year old face look sixty.

Susy All right. Cool. Perfect. Well, thanks for being here, everybody. We really enjoy putting this show out for you guys, and we love that you love listening to it as well. So thank you. Remember to support our sponsors. If you'd like to support us you can do so at the website. Go look at the website. I've reorganized it a little bit. I changed the colors. I think it's better. Plus I'm working on the whole new how to make the podcast searchable again. So there will be some long descriptions in the podcast. We're just gonna have to roll with it and that's it. Happy grooming everyone. We'll see you next week on the groom pod. Buh bye now.

Bbird And take care of yourselves because we love you.
